5G Edge Computing Proof of Concept

Background

The 5G technology enables the possibility of Edge Computing and brings it closer to us.

Together they will make mobile services very different than today and change our lives dramatically.

KaiOS, as a mobile device operating system provider accepted the invitation from its business partner to provide an innovative proof of concept design and product vision for a partnership opportunity.

My Role

I led task force and coordinated design and engineering resource for a feasible design proof of concept.

My strategy was

i. Understand technology feasibility, business opportunity, and user desirability for design innovation.

ii. Transform i. into practical design concept

iii. Execute design production with high fidelity working prototype for video demo.

5G & Edge Computing

5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher bandwidth, ultra low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, and increased availability.

Due to 5G's low latency and high speed capability, it makes possible the benefits of edge computing solutions for device processing and data offload as well as trusted computing and storage. Higher performance and significant improved efficiency empower new user experiences and connects new industries.

Hybrid Solution for Thin-Client

The content on the end device can be hybrid from local side or edge server. The app or content can come from either local or streaming or deploying from edge server with different combination possibilities. But users can't tell and don't need to know the difference.

Thin-Client Devices

With Edge Computing, these stand-alone devices can connect to 5G directly and efficiently with low power.

Insight : Location Based Service

The 5G edge computing brings location based service into our day to day lives. It enables a new experience by possibly providing diverse realtime services to users.

Moment Design

Moment is a context aware service platform designed for Edge to empower thin client devices such as mobile phone.

It has various content services steamed to the device from Edge servers.

Moment Manager

All the moments can be aggregated by Moment Manager which consists of saved moments and instant moments pushed to the device by context or location. Users can simply save an instant moment by dragging and placing it in Save Moments area. The content of each moment is tailored for users a the service provider, such as a museum, stadium, or a shopping mall.

Stripe UI

Each moment has different contents. Stripe UI allows user to quickly peak available information just like an interactive index. Each stripe is expandable for more information/actions and full service app view is available for more details.
